Located in an 18th century monastery that was once habited by Visitandine nuns, La Locanda Delle Donne Monache is a luxurious rural village getaway that has been renovated to today’s high standards in impeccable Italian taste. The original features of the monastery have been conserved; outside, raw rock and stone walls are exposed, vines and climbing plants abound, the garden is a riot of colourful flowers. Inside the décor is avant garde, alive with examples of Murano artwork; the reception desk has an extravagant backdrop of a 3D clockwork colláge and the lobby and resting areas are dotted with brightly coloured figurines. Throughout the interior the original rock walls and stone flooring has been incorporated where possible, creating a post-modern, designer ambiance, all with the advantage of plenty of natural light, and breathtaking views of the area from every available window.
The restaurant Il Sacello offers culinary delights from the Basilicata region, while Bar L’Alambicco serves light snacks and cocktails that can be enjoyed in the beautiful grounds or by the turquoise waters of the rooftop pool with its view over the town. La Locanda Delle Donne Monache is located in the heart of the medieval village of Maratea, between the sea and the mountains. The hotel provides a daily and free shuttle service to the beach, and on the beach the sunbeds and the beach umbrella are free. The nearest airports are Napoli Capodichino, 207 km away, or Lametia Terme airport, 152 km away.
The rooms of the hotel are decorated simplistically but elegantly, white walls and slim wrought iron bed-frames and lampshades are complimented by splashes of colour from the fresh flowers and unusual ornaments to be found here.
The suites are undoubtedly the symbol of the hotel, equipped with four-poster bed, each with distinctive characteristics and unique: “La Vicaria” with the bath created into the rock of his bathroom, “La Badessa” is equipped with a jacuzzi and a spacious terrace with a marvelous view on the historical centre of Maratea, “Le Converse” with the tranquility of her private garden. The deluxe rooms have a beautiful view over the roofs of the historical village, the classic and the superior rooms were once dedicated to meditation and prayer.
